Budapest to Vienna by Bicycle.

We had our children studying (Erasmus) near Hungary and we decided to meet them in Budapest to be together for a few days and to visit a city we didn't know.

We left Lisbon for that purpose, but knowing that after those days with our children, we would have a few more days alone.

As I don't like to travel with big plans, we booked only one apartment in Budapest (AirBnB) and left all the rest for whatever we wanted.

We did that, we spent 4 days with them in Budapest, where we had the opportunity to socialize and also to get to know a great city.

Budapest is in fact a very beautiful city, with a very rich history, with a lot of cultural offerings, with several monuments to visit and with well-kept green spaces to enjoy.

One of the things I advise everyone who visits Budapest, especially those who don’t know this city, is to take a bike tour on the first day.

We did that, it was an excellent opportunity to have a first contact with the whole city and it helped us a lot to plan the following days.

The days with our children, as usual on these occasions, were great, so they passed very quickly.

When we realized that they were already picking up the bags to return to the universities, we were once again alone, with a few days of vacation to enjoy and with nothing planned.

The weather was fantastic, the sun was shining, no wind, the temperatures were around 20º, there were perfect conditions to enjoy nature and so we thought that taking a bicycle trip, along the Danube, to Vienna would be an excellent option.

Early in the morning we left the house and went to try to rent bikes. Luck was with us; in a few minutes we found a store that wasn’t very expensive and had very friendly employees who gave us a lot of information about the route to Vienna.

The decision was made, we rented 2 electric bikes, equipped with saddlebags, we immediately went home to get the clothes and started our adventure.

In front of us we had about 300 km of places to explore that we didn’t know, many of them in Hungary, where many people don’t speak English, but we trusted our intuition, our phones and bicycles.

One of the advantages of traveling by bicycle is the possibility to discover surprisingly wonderful places and to know, in a very authentic way, new cultures, new people and ways of living.

We love these kinds of experiences and we started this bike trip very excited!
