KENYA BIKE TRIP - UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURE.

It's true that it is not a childhood passion, but it is a fact that in recent years it has been a growing passion and is currently something that gives me more and more pleasure.

The feeling of freedom, the taste for discovery, for meeting new people and new places, all this mixed with a little adventure and the fact that I force myself to exercise regularly must be the basis of this hobby of mine.

Currently, in my daily life, I'm a bike tour guide, something that gives me immense pleasure and that makes me cycle every day in Portugal.

Maybe some people think I'm a masochist, the truth is that I don't even take my bike off on vacation. I take advantage of these periods to go on bicycle trips and this combines the desire to discover new places with the taste for adventure.

After having already cycled along the Danube River, between Viana and Budapest and having done the same in Panama, this year the choice fell on Kenya, a very different and much more challenging destination.

We did this choice at the right time!

Cycling in Kenya it was a fantastic, fascinating and unforgettable experience.

By bicycle we were able to discover mythical cities in a more authentic way, such as Nairobi and Mombassa, we were able to travel a large part of this country by bicycle, getting to know very different cultures, realities and ways of life.

Visiting wonderful places that served as settings for Out of Africa, like Lake Nakuro or inspiration for Lion King, like Hells Gate, was fantastic!

Lake Nakuru - Out of Africa

Hells Gate - Lion King

Constantly crossing paths with zebras, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes and monkeys; see leopards, cheetahs, gazelles, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles and rhinos up close; feeling that lions also walked around here and waking up to the singing of hundreds of birds was a unique experience.

Unique, due to its authenticity, was also the way we met several people, nice, friendly and simple, with completely different lifestyles.

In the first few days we were in fantastic places such as the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, which has at its base the Ambosseli National Park, which is full of elephants.

Hiking in Kilimanjaro with Bryan was absolutely wonderful and the safari in Ambosseli National Park was an unforgettable experience.

The 2 days we stayed in Nairobi allowed us to get to know this frenetic city, as well as visit the elephant orphanage (a fantastic work that takes care of elephants that were accidentally orphaned in the wild), the giraffe center and the Nairobi National Park, where among others we came across huge rhinos up close.

The Maasai Mara region, an area of extreme beauty, with a huge variety of wildlife, will forever be etched in our memories.

Waking up with a family of hippos bathing in front of us, frequently crossing paths with elephants, giraffes, hundreds of buffaloes, gazelles, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, lions, ostriches, etc., going on unforgettable bike rides full of adventures, even the wonderful picnics and socializing with locals was simply extraordinary.

This was a fantastic trip, which was greatly facilitated with the precious collaboration of Africa Cycling, to which we would like to express our deepest gratitude.
