Environmental sustainability must be increasingly present in our actions.
The increasing use of bicycles as a means of transport in people's daily lives has been increasing in recent years all over the world, in Lisbon and Portugal this trend has also been verified.
New policies that promote the use of bicycles, such as the construction of more cycle paths, the emergence of more advanced bicycles and a new awareness in society for have been important factors.
Bike tours are also part of the principle of sustainability, they promote a different way of exploring a city. For this reason, our activity is ecofriendly in its genesis.
In fact, we always have environmental issues in our thoughts, not only in promoting cycling, but also in other situations, like upcycling.
A few days ago, as we have already announced here, we changed our meeting point to Rua dos Caminhos de Ferro and for that we had to rehabilitate an entire space that was very degraded.
In the rehabilitation works, we took special care to maintain the original features of the building, but also took care to make use of old and deteriorated material, such as our bicycle wheels, tires, inner tubes, horns, suspensions, cables, saddles, etc.
Here are some examples of the use of materials that no longer had any use and whose destination could easily have been garbage:
The Washbasin – Upcycling.
With the stone of an old sink, we built an original washbasin so that everyone can wash their hands and with the pedal of a bicycle we made an original soap dish holder.
Toilet Paper Holder – Upcycling
Using the front wheel fork of an old bicycle, we made an amazing toilet paper roll holder.
Table – Upcycling
With 4 used car tires that we found in a garage, which we painted to give a more cheerful color, we made a very nice table.
Our Desk – Upcycling
To the marble stone that was abandoned in the corner of a garden, we added 2 iron legs and made our desk.
Lamps – Upcycling
To have light on the desk, we used a bicycle seat post (which was bent), the gear cassette and we made a lamp.
Wall Decoration – Upcycling
For the decoration of some walls, we chose to use wheels and tires that could no longer be used on bicycles.
Helmet Holder – Upcycling
One of the difficulties that we always have in this activity is finding a place to store helmets, usually a large space is needed to store so many helmets, in this case we used wooden crates from an old wine cellar, old bicycle chains and we made this original holder, which allows us in a small space and in a very friendly way to store dozens of helmets
Hangers and Photo Holders
Finally, so that our customers can leave coats during the tours and to put the photos that remind us of lovely moments of , we took advantage of some irons left over from the repair of the store doors to serve as a hanger and support for the photos.
For the use of all this material and in some requalification works of the new space we always had the precious and essential collaboration of one of our neighbors and partners, Bina Clínica.
