The Tagus River Estuary is the largest estuary in Western Europe, due to its biodiversity it’s currently a nature reserve.
This whole area, close to Lisbon, has incredible wild life beauty, has an immense vegetable richness and an eco-system that originates the existence of several fish and mollusks species.
Visible to those who visit, the Tagus River Estuary is also a sanctuary for many bird’s species.
For this reason, one of the great attractions here is the bird watching, with special emphasis on the huge groups of very friendly flamingos.
Over thousands of years, given the natural wealth and geographical situation, this whole area has been explored by man, so there are traces of that exploration, such as the centuries-old tidal mills ruins, old cod dry and cork ruins factories.
Exploring the Tagus River Estuary by bicycle, in the midst of wonderful landscapes, visiting the small and traditional villages around the river, where you can taste traditional dishes, is a great program for all wild-life lovers.
We know very well this all area and we provide several bike tours in the Tagus Estuary:
