Explore the Lisbon–Valada–Évoa bike tour along the Tejo River.
A 2-day cycling journey through riverside villages, Avieiros culture, wildlife and flamingo watching.
Some journeys take us far away.
Others remind us that, even close to Lisbon, there are still entire worlds waiting to be discovered.
The Lisbon – Valada – Évoa Bike Tour is one of those journeys.
A two-day ride along the Tejo River, combining cycling, riverside culture, untouched nature and authentic local food.
Here, life slows down, silence takes over, and the Tejo reveals secrets few people know.
Day 1 — Lisbon→ Vila Franca → Valada

The journey begins in Lisbon, with the river always by our side.
After passing through Parque das Nações, we follow the Tejo into a surprisingly different landscape:
river islands, wide floodplains and an impressive diversity of birdlife quickly make us forget how close we are to the city.
Cycling along the Tejo Walkways towards Santa Iria de Azóia, we enter a region deeply connected to the history of the Avieiros — fishing communities who settled along the riverbanks.

Stilt houses, traditional boats and a riverside lifestyle tell stories of resilience and a deep connection to the river.

We then continue to Vila Franca de Xira, a town shaped by its river identity, gastronomy and traditions.

It’s a perfect place for short stops, photos and soaking in the local atmosphere before heading towards Valada.
Valada: Overnight Stay and a Magical Tejo Sunset

Arriving in Valada do Ribatejo at the end of the afternoon marks the end of the first stage — but not the end of the day.
The sunset by the river beach is one of the highlights of the tour - golden reflections on the water, riverside wildlife and absolute tranquility.
With local snacks, cold drinks and good company, this moment becomes a true reward after a full day on the bike.
Day 2 — Valada → Escaroupim → Évoa

Cycling Deep into Nature
On the second day, the route takes us even deeper into the Tejo landscape.
Passing through Escaroupim, a traditional stilt-house village, is one of the tour’s most memorable moments.
The colorful wooden houses built above the river reflect a way of life shaped by floods and nature.
From there, we ride towards Évoa, surrounded by open landscapes, silence and a constant sense of connection with the land.
Évoa: Birdwatching and Untouched Nature

In Évoa, nature takes center stage.
This area is rich in biodiversity and a prime destination for birdwatching.

Herons, storks, ducks and many other species inhabit these wetlands.
The highlight, however, is the presence of flamingos — hundreds, sometimes thousands — creating a truly unforgettable natural spectacle.

Seeing them in their natural habitat is one of those moments that stays with you forever.
