The 8 Best Beaches to Visit Near Lisbon

Lisbon is one of the few European capitals where you can spend one day exploring beautiful beaches.

With more than 300 days of sunshine a year and an extensive coastline stretching from Cascais to Arrábida, there are plenty of fantastic options within easy reach of the city.

Here are some of our favourite beaches near Lisbon:

1 - Cascais Beach

The Easiest Beach Escape from Lisbon

If you're staying in Lisbon and want a simple beach day without renting a car, Cascais is probably the best option.

Just take the train from Cais do Sodré Station and, in around 40 minutes, you'll arrive in the charming seaside town of Cascais. Several beautiful beaches are located within walking distance of the station, making it incredibly convenient for visitors.

The water is usually calm, the beaches are clean, and the town itself is full of character.

After a day by the sea, enjoy a stroll through the historic centre and choose from the many restaurants, cafés and terraces overlooking the ocean.

Best for: Easy access, families, couples and relaxed beach days.

2 - Caparica Beach

Endless Sand and Ocean Views

Located just south of Lisbon, Costa da Caparica offers an impressive coastline with nearly 10 kilometres of sandy beaches.

Whether you're looking for a lively atmosphere, beach bars, seafood restaurants or simply a place to relax, you'll find it here.

The vast stretch of sand means it's usually possible to find plenty of space, even during the summer months.

It's a favourite destination for both locals and visitors and one of the best places to enjoy a full day by the Atlantic Ocean.

At the end of the day, as the sun sets, don't miss the traditional fishermen pulling in their nets full of fish.

Best for: Long walks, beach restaurants, surfing and summer vibes.

Best for: Nature lovers, photographers and surfers.

4 - Adraga Beach

Hidden in Sintra, among the cliffs near Cabo da Roca, Praia da Adraga is regularly considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal.

Golden sand, impressive rock formations and crystal-clear water create a truly unforgettable setting. Pefect spot for great pictures.

Best for: Scenic beauty and peaceful surroundings.

5 - Ursa Beach

Often described as one of Europe's most beautiful beaches, Praia da Ursa is a true adventure.

The beach can only be reached via a steep trail down the cliffs, so it's best suited to active visitors comfortable with a challenging walk.

The reward is a spectacular and almost untouched landscape.

Best for: Adventurers and nature enthusiasts.

6 - Fonte da Telha Beach

Located at the southern end of Costa da Caparica, Fonte da Telha offers a long, wild stretch of sand surrounded by natural scenery.

Even during summer, it's often possible to find quieter areas away from the crowds.

A perfect place to enjoy the Atlantic coast at its most authentic.

Best for: Peace, space and long beach walks.

Praia do Meco combines beautiful scenery with a relaxed atmosphere.

Popular among locals, it offers dramatic cliffs, excellent sunsets and plenty of space to unwind.

Portugal's Hidden Paradise

The beaches of Arrábida Natural Park are among the most stunning in Portugal.

Surrounded by green hills and Mediterranean vegetation, beaches such as Galapinhos, Galapos and Portinho da Arrábida are famous for their white sand and incredibly clear turquoise waters.
