Dão Bike Route is the result of the excellent use of the old Dão Railway Line, deactivated in 1988.
This path with 50 km, between Viseu and Santa Comba Dão, is very easy to cycling, it doesn’t have great uphill slopes, has a smooth pavement, it’s very well signposted, very comfortable and safe.
We’ll start our bike tour in the Viseu City Center. Shortly after we’ll be in eco bike lane in middle of nature, where magnificent chestnut trees, cork and oak trees, agricultural fields and vineyards stand out.
We’ll see Serra da Estrela and Caramulo, we’ll pass by the old train stations (Tonda, Mosteirinho, Figueiró, etc.), we’ll find an old steam locomotive, cross spectacular bridges and some tunnels that remind us old movies scenarios.
Approximately in the middle of the route we’ll do a break to have delicious picnic in old train station.
Now it’s time to find the banks of the Dão River, from there each curve of the river means a new curve in the bike lane, new corners to discover and great landscapes to see.
We’ll end this tour in Viseu where a car is waiting to transport everybody and our bikes back to Viseu.
The Dão Bike Route is the longest and also, considered by many, one of the most beautiful in Portugal.
