Viseu – Cycling by the Town.

After spending a week cycling in Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain in Portugal, after the island of Pico in the Azores, yesterday at the end of the day we traveled by bus to Viseu.

Unlike the last few days, when the weather was wonderful (sky very blue and the sun shining), today we find clouds and some rain, but nothing to stop us from fulfilling our plan.

In the morning we visited the city, after lunch we cycled on a eco bike lane that ends in Santa Comba Dão.

Viseu is a city with a lot of history, the land where Viriato was born, a great Lusitanian warrior and a legendary figure in the history of Portugal.

According to several reports and several historians, Viriato faced the invasions of the Iberian Peninsula, made by the powerful Roman Empire, which occurred about 150 years a.c ..

We started the day seeing Viriato statue, the city walls, the Fontelo Park and cycling around the city, before going up to the historic center.

The historic center of Viseu is a labyrinth of small streets, with many houses made of granite. We took a short break for coffee before visiting the wonderful Cathedral and the Grão Vasco Museum.

The whole city is very beautiful and taking a bike tour through its streets helps you get to know it faster, but the historic center, the Cathedral and the Grão Vasco Museum, as you can see in the images, are places you should visit.

After this city tour, where we had a delicious steak at the Cantinho dos Frangos restaurant (I recommend), we went to cycle once more the Dão Eco-Route, which has a distance of about 50 km., connects Viseu to Santa Comba Dão and is considered by many the most beautiful in Portugal.

On the 24th and 25th of April we will return to Viseu for a bike ride, we will bring bikes for everyone, BOOK HERE!
